BLS and AED for Adults, Children and Infants

Our BLS and AED course for adults, children and infants gives you practical training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the safe use of an automated external defibrillator. It suits people with workplace, voluntary or community responsibilities.

This regulated Level 3 qualification is delivered in partnership with Simply First Aid.

What you will learn

During the course, you will learn how to:

  • Assess an emergency and carry out a primary survey

  • Recognise when someone needs CPR

  • Perform CPR on adults, children and infants

  • Use an AED safely

  • Adapt AED use for children and infants

  • Place an unresponsive casualty in the recovery position

  • Monitor a casualty while waiting for emergency help

Course duration

  • Minimum guided learning: 3.5 hours

  • Directed study: 1 hour

  • Total Qualification Time: 4.5 hours

This is a practical course. You must be able to complete CPR and recovery-position assessments at floor level.

Assessment and certification

Your trainer will assess your practical skills throughout the course. The assessments cover adult, child and infant CPR, AED use and care of an unconscious casualty.

After completing all assessments successfully, you will receive the Qualsafe Level 3 Award in BLS and AED for Adults, Children and Infants (RQF). The qualification remains valid for three years.

Who can attend?

This course suits employees, volunteers, community groups and anyone responsible for responding to an emergency.

You must be at least 14 years old on the first day of training. You should wear comfortable clothing and flat footwear because the practical work takes place at floor level.
